High SCHOOL Student-ATHLETE Mentor
Position: High School Student-Athlete Mentor Fall '24 and Spring '25
Join our team as a High School Athlete Mentor and play a pivotal role in empowering young athletes to achieve their fullest potential. At LearnYou, our mentors are instrumental in fostering personal growth, self-confidence, and leadership skills in high school athletes. By offering guidance, motivation, and structure, you'll contribute to their holistic development both on and off the field.

This is a volunteer position that spans a specified timeframe that corresponds with Columbia Public Schools academic calendar. This position may involve a combination of remote and in-person one hour interactions. Mentors are expected to meet with their assigned mentee(s) once a week for an hour. Mentors will be required to do monthly check-in meeting with the Directors of Affairs. Additional opportunities to interact with mentees may occur. Our mentors contribute to a positive and nurturing environment that empowers high school athletes to excel in sports while fostering personal growth. We especially encourage all undergraduate students who need to complete volunteer requirements for degree completion to apply.

- Work closely with LearnYou staff, collaborating with the Directors of Affairs and Academics.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to high school athletes, helping them navigate challenges and set personal and athletic goals.
- Develop strategies for maintaining a healthy balance between academic commitments and sports.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive environment that values diversity and promotes a sense of belonging.
- Offer insights into the value of character, integrity, and leadership within the context of sport and life.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years +
- Must be currently enrolled in college or have an undergraduate degree.
- Passionate for supporting and empowering youth high school athletes.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Positive attitude and a willingness to motivate and inspire others.
- Ability to effectively collaborate within a team environment.
- Empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by youth athletes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experienced in mentoring or coaching youth.
- Experienced in high school sports, whether as an athlete, coach, or in a similar role.
- Worked or competed in intercollegiate athletics or higher.
- Familiarity with the physical and mental demands of high school varsity sports.
- Understanding of identity development and its impact on adolescent athletes.
